The annual Memorial Day Mule Skinners Poker Ride, held at the Flying M Ranch, was a large turnout despite the ominous signs of downpour on the horizon. The turnout wasn’t quite as large as the previous year when sunny, warm weather prevailed for the entire extended weekend, but, it was still a good crowd of dedicated trail riders looking for a fun ride and social gathering to kick-start Continue reading this POST

On the weekend after Thanksgiving we headed to Stub Stewart State Park to meet up with our friends, Marvin and Jodi Pierce, and ride the trails. Unfortunately we weren’t being blessed with the glorious sunshine from the day before but at least it wasn’t raining! We loaded the 4 horses in the trailer and set out about 8:30 am Saturday morning.

Sunday, November 1st was a spectacular day. The temperature was in the fifties but the bright autumn sun made it feel like high sixties. The sky was almost cloudless, the air crisp and inspiring and the first thing that popped into my mind was “What a day for a horseback ride!” Continue reading this POST

Once upon a time I went to Spain to work with horses. Actually, I wore two hats...personal riding instructor to Patricia and part-time nanny to her youngest daughter. The nanny portion was infrequent but the horses played a prominent role during my time there.

At the end of July my family and I took our four horses camping up at Three Creeks Horse Camp in Sisters, OR for an extended weekend. It had been at least five years or more since I had been horse camping at this site and I was excited to get back to the area. My memory of the campsites and corrals was one of lots of shady Continue reading this POST
